What is an exploratory pond cleaning & what does it cost?

What is an exploratory pond cleaning in Oklahoma City?

It's Cleaning Time
Why Would You Consider An Exploratory Pond Cleaning In Oklahoma?
An exploratory cleaning is a lot like a traditional pond cleaning, but more detailed and you get more information at the end. We will map out your pond and its equipment, keep this information in our database for future use, and make sure that you have all the information for your records.
Exploratory pond cleanings are done for quite a few reasons in Oklahoma City. Perhaps your pond has not been serviced regularly. Or maybe you purchased a house with a pond and don’t know much about it. There could be a leak in the pond and you’re not sure how to find or repair it. Or possibly you just don’t really know what the previous pond professional did.

Picture
So what exactly does exploratory pond cleaning involve?
Well, our whole approach to pond ownership is to encourage responsibility and enjoyment of your water feature. After all, that’s what having a water feature is supposed to be all about…having a unique and interesting environment that the entire family can enjoy. That’s easy to do when you make the choice to add a water feature to your Oklahoma City property, but what about when you inherit someone else’s system?
It can be intimidating to suddenly be confronted with a pond when you know absolutely nothing about how to care for them. If there are other factors added into the mix, such as fish, plant life or features like waterfalls that can complicate matters even more. Well, we don’t ever want your water feature to become a source of stress, so that’s why we offer what is basically a guided pond cleaning, where our experts walk you through the process and help you understand everything you need to know about your pond.

Picture
With this service, our team of Service Technicians will come to your home and perform a pond cleaning.
We’ll start by draining your Oklahoma City pond and removing any aquatic life, such as fish or frogs, to holding tanks. Then we can get a closer look at the structure of the pond itself. We’ll closely examine every aspect of the structure from filtration and pump equipment to plant life to the rocks themselves and explain all of it to you in as much detail as you require.

Having the pond drained of water during the exploratory pond cleaning will also allow us to take a closer look at the pond liner and determine what kind of shape it is in. If there are any liner issues to address this would be the time to do so. The important thing is to ensure that your pond is capable of holding water so that plants and fish in the pond won’t be in any danger. During this exploratory pond cleaning, we’ll be able to evaluate the filtration and pump system and make sure it is adequate for the needs of the pond as well as make any necessary repairs.

There may be any number of findings from this pond cleaning, including whether the pump motor was functioning properly if any filter screens were missing or damaged, and if the pond was extremely dirty or had buildups of algae or any other harmful substances. We’ll be able to address any of these issues and make sure you understand exactly how to maintain your pond so that these conditions don’t crop up again.

Once any problems have been addressed, we’ll complete the exploratory pond cleaning by refilling the pond and returning the aquatic life carefully, allowing any fish to properly adjust to the change in water temperature.
Then we’ll be able to give you advice and instruction on how to care for your fish, frogs and other living things. Remember, a pond isn’t just a decorative feature it is, in fact, a growing and changing ecosystem, and it requires regular care and maintenance to remain healthy.
What is the cost for an exploratory pond service? How do I Sign up?
The cost of the service starts around $800, and the actual price depends on the size and condition of the pond. The price includes:
  •     A trained and experienced 2-3 man team coming to your home

What Does Waterfall Repair Cost?

2/26/2019

Average Waterfall Costs for Oklahoma City Area

Another question we get asked a lot is “What does waterfall repair cost here in the Oklahoma City area?” and just like everything else there are a lot of variables to consider. The cost of waterfall repairs can vary like any other service. Having a leak in the waterfall area of your waterfalls is one of the most common leak spots for any water feature. Listed below are some starting prices for waterfall repair.
Waterfall Repair Costs
Depending on how your waterfalls are built, will depend on the cost to disassemble and re-build them. You can expect to see labor rates from contractors ranging from $60-$125 per man hour for laborers, and up to $150 hr for waterfall designers or artists. In addition to the cost of materials.
Things that can cause your waterfall to leak.
Is your liner too low, is liner properly attached to your skimmer and biofalls, are the screws and bolts rusted off the skimmer and/or biofalls, are aquatic plants creating the problem? Even newly built waterfalls here in Oklahoma City will settle over time, thus in some cases lowering liner edges allowing water to exit your pond at the waterfall. These are just a few things that can impact the price due to the extra labor and materials involved to repair a Waterfall.
Things to consider!
A large factor to consider in the cost of your pond service is the company you are hiring. An Oklahoma City lawn & landscape company will typically be less expensive than bringing in a company that specializes in water features. Retaining trained professionals (specialists) in a given field of expertise is much more costly than hiring general laborers. Our team members at Continental Ponds are taught by industry experts on how to install, service and maintain ponds and water features.

What Does It Cost To Patch A Hole In A Liner?

2/26/2019

Average costs to patch a hole in a liner in Oklahoma City?

Picture
Every day we are asked, “How much does it cost to patch a hole in my liner?” and that’s just to broad of a question. It’s a little like asking how much does a pond cost. A tub pond isn’t going to cost you much...you may be able to get it from your neighbor for free...but that custom ecosystem pond is going to be a little more expensive.

There are many factors to determine the price for patching a hole in the liner in Oklahoma City. Such as: Where is the hole, how big is the hole, what caused the hole, are you sure that’s the only hole, is the hole repairable, how long does it take to find the hole? These are just a few variables that can impact the price due to the extra labor and materials it may take to patch a hole in the liner.

Liner Repair Costs

Most Oklahoma City pond contractors provide this service and prices will range from $85-$125 per man hour. Usually you will also be charged a trip fee, anywhere between $30-$50 depending on the mileage. In addition to the cost of materials.

How much does it cost to Clean Out your Oklahoma koi pond

2/8/2019

Average cost of a Oklahoma City pond clean out

Pond/Water feature Clean Out Cost Oklahoma
Every year here in the Oklahoma City metro area we at Continental Ponds get hundreds of call for, "How much does a koi pond clean out cost?"  This blog will address that question as well as all the variables that affect clean out costs.  This will allow you to make an educated decision on who you should call for your pond cleaning!

The cost of a Oklahoma City koi Pond clean out can vary like any other service item. Variables, like length of time between clean outs, amount of fish, location to deciduous trees, netting options, and many other factors can alter the pricing of this vital service. Listed below are some starting prices to have a Koi Pond cleaned out.  See below for information about additional services and charges.

Cost of a Koi Pond Clean Out by Size
  •          8 x 11 pond clean out cost -  $650
  • 11 x 16  pond clean out cost - $850
  • 16 x 16  pond clean out cost - $1400
  • 16 x 21  pond clean out cost - $1800

As discussed before many factors determine the price of a pond clean out.  The type of filtration in your pond, the depth and the length of your stream play a part in the cost.  Do you have a bog, negative edge, wet well or wetland filtration?  If so, these variables can impact the price due to the extra labor it may take to perform a thorough system-wide clean out.
Pond/Water feature Clean Out Cost Oklahoma
Has your Oklahoma City Koi Pond been cleaned out in the past 1-2 years?  Do you have deciduous trees near your pond?  Have you netted your pond during the fall season?  Do you have easy access to your pond, or are there obstacles that make the pond clean out more difficult; like a steep slope?  The amount of plants you have in your pond can make a huge difference in the cost of a clean out. Too many plants can reduce the flow of waterways and cause extra sediment to build up on the floor of the pond. These plants have roots systems that can become deeply embedded in the pond bottom.  Plants can be divided during a pond clean out; the cost is typically $50 a plant.  Once we had a Koi Pond clean out that had a root system that covered the entire bottom of the pond and wrapped around the rocks.  In this case, it took most of the day just to remove the roots and an additional day to do the pond clean-out.  This was a Oklahoma City Koi Pond that hadn’t been cleaned out in many years.

A few things to consider before hiring someone to clean out your pond.

Pond/Water feature Clean Out Cost Oklahoma
The term “pond clean out” is often used very loosely. There are obviously different levels of cleaning, as well as a variety of construction techniques that can make a water feature easier, or more difficult to clean and maintain. A “clean out” could be considered physically removing the leaves and debris and cleaning out the pond filters.  Another type of clean out could be simply vacuuming leaves out of an exposed-liner pond and rinsing out the filter pads. Here at Continental Ponds our preferred method of cleaning ponds is what we refer to as a complete cleaning and component inspection. This service is normally done in the spring. We would be happy to send you our list of procedures for this service but for now I want to focus on expense related concerns and not so much on methodology.

A large factor to consider in the cost of your pond cleaning is the company you are hiring. Most Oklahoma City lawn & landscape company will typically be less expensive than bringing in a company that specializes in water features. Retaining trained professionals (specialists) in a given field of expertise is much more costly than hiring general laborers.  Our team members are taught about fish care and diseases, plants, plumbing, filtration, etc. by industry experts. This investment in personnel definitely raises the cost of our service and may or may not be a value to you. We have seen local landscape companies do pond cleaning for as little as $350.00. I’m not vouching for the quality of the service delivered, only the price. At Continental Ponds, our starting price for a complete spring cleaning and component inspection starts at $650.00.

Pond/Water feature Clean Out Cost Oklahoma

Another consideration that may be important to you is sanitation.

Does a company sanitize equipment between cleanings? This is a big deal to some people! If you have koi or other fish in your pond you should think about this. Some clean out crews (ours included) clean multiple ponds each day in the spring time. Pond diseases, bacteria, and parasites can easily be transported from one pond to the next inside the holding tanks, pumps, and plumbing used to complete a clean out. Early in the year, when the water temperature is cool and the fish have slower metabolism it is the perfect time for problems to occur due to inadequate sanitation practices. Something to think about if you have fish you love!

You may also consider professionalism an important factor in choosing your service company.

One guy/gal in a pickup with a hose, a pump, and a 5 gallon bucket may take a few days to clean your pond. The alternative is that a professional team of trained technicians shows up and has all the proper tools to do a fast-efficient clean out. Koi tanks that hold hundreds of gallons of water are set up, the team goes into action, pond is clean and fish are returned unscathed to their habitat in rapid fashion. The experience delivered by a professional team may or may not be an important factor to you.

The remaining variables in clean out cost are related to methodology (how well the pond is cleaned), the size of the feature, and other business related variables. With the information we have provided above you should be educated enough to make an informed decision on who you should hire to clean your koi pond.

If you have any other questions on the price of a clean out, what we do when we clean a pond out or any other questions please contact us here.
