Common Oklahoma Koi Pond Misconception: “I’ll Have To Use Chemicals To Keep The Oklahoma Pond Clean”9/6/2019 We hear 'misconceptions' all the time when we talk to people about koi ponds...so we thought it's about time to dispel some of the most common ones we hear. Often times we get excuses like; it's too much maintenance, a pond is too much money, I don't have room for a pond ...and the like. More often than not, we hear actual misconceptions like, it will attract mosquitoes, it's not safe for my kids, or I'll have to use chemicals to keep it clean. Many times these misconceptions come from ponds done wrong (which is another topic altogether). So, here we are hoping to help dispel these excuses, misconceptions, and plain ol' myths. I'll Have To Use Chemicals To Keep It Clean Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. There is no need for bleach or chlorine in an Oklahoma Koi pond that is built correctly. And by built correctly we mean, an Oklahoma ecosystem pond. Besides, throwing chemicals like that in your pond will likely kill your fish. Not only kill your fish, but also kill the good bacteria in your pond. Below is what an Oklahoma koi pond needs to operate as a self contained ecosystem that has no need for chemicals like chlorine or bleach.
Starting to make sense? Take away one element and the other elements are affected. But when you have all the right elements for an Oklahoma ecosystem pond, they all work together, creating a lower maintenance pond that has no need for chemicals.
